The City requires a building permit for any work valued over $1000.00. For a list of permits and fees, go to our documents and downloads page. This site contains useful information and may answer many of your questions but our staff is available to provide additional information if you can't find it here.

Permit Process

Once you obtain an application, complete all the information and provide two sets of complete plans, a site plan (if required), and any additional documentation depending on the scope of work.

Once you submit your application, we will check for it for completeness, and will give you the cost of the permit fee. The plans will be forwarded to the review team and will notify you of any deficiencies.

Once your permit has been reviewed, and any revisions corrected, a permit can be issued. The process takes approximately 7 to 10 days but be mindful that this is an estimate and depends on the scope of the project and staff availability.

Inspections
Each permit is subject to a minimum of two inspections, a footing and a final. However, depending on the project, there will be other inspections needed during the construction. It is the contractor's responsibility to contact the department and request an inspection when ready. Calls for inspections should be made prior to 3:00 p.m. the day before the inspection.
